Tips To Avoid Spam

1. Use A Throw Away Mail Account

Go to one of the many FREE web based mail services, Hotmail, Netaddress, Angelfire, and so forth. Sign up for a couple accounts, and everytime you sign up for something on the web use that address. Once a week sign into that account and delete all the mail recieved to keep the box from filling up. Give your real Email to family and close friends only.

2. Munge Your Address When Posting To USENET

If you post to Usenet news groups, munge your address. "leslie@NOSPAM.fustercluck.com" Include instructions on how to make contact  in your signature file, as in "remove nospam to reply"

3. Use A Newsreader That Includes Filters

Use a News reader that includes filters, I use Agent available from Forteinc They have a free version available. Most of us that use this program, will gladly share our filters with anybody that ask's

4. Use A Mail Program That Includes Filters

Most mail programs today have filters built in to them. One of the simplest filters to apply, do not accept mail not addressed to you. Most spammers include your name in the BCC: field not the To: field. Don't accept mail not addressed to you.

5. AOL Users

Get a real ISP .. Ok just kidding .. Go to mail controls and check the box for Block all mail unless listed. Then list who you want to accept mail from. Put in your profile, that you will not accept mail from anybody unless approved.
